Rachel came to Erinsborough with her father Alex Kinski and brother Zeke. At first she had a hard time fitting in, though this didn't bother her. For most of her life she had been home schooled and the Kinski family had a alternative method of living, which saw them spending more time together and engage in intellectual games rather than watching Television soaps and eating junk food.
During her first few days at Erinsborough high she was befriended by Bree who saw her as a fellow odd ball, after seeing Rachel singing and dancing to herself in the school corridor. Gradually Bree introduced her to a different style of living which is embraced by the Timmins. This included a course in The O.C T.V. show and lead to Rachel drifting away from the stricter more uniform livestyle she held before coming to Erinsborough.
Late 2005 saw the onset of Rachel's fathers Lyphatic cancer which put the family under great strain and saw Rachel lash out at those close to her. Rachel felt that she was being let down by all the adults in her life as both Alex and Susan kept Alex disease from the children for several weeks, only revealing the problem when Alex's condition worsened. His death over the holiday period from 2005 to 2006 saw Rachel spin out of control as she attempted to deal with it. She lashed out at friends and family threaning. Attempts to calm her only caused further tension. Through strong support from Susan and Stingray Rachel's life did return to a semblance of normality before she completely lost control.
The presence of elder sister Katya Kinski in 2006 saw the Kinski children content for a short while, however problems resumed as Katya contested Susan's custody of both Rachel and Zeke. Susan's yielding saw Rachel move out of number 28 with her brother and into a small flat with Katya. Katya's limited experience with looking after children hampered her efforts and her increasing oversights with regards to their welfare led her to agree with Susan, who remain active in the the children's lives, that it would be best to return to number 28.
Rachel's relationship with Stingray, which began after her fathers death, proved a flashpoint in Rachel's increasingly testy relationship with her sister. Katya's disapproval of the union only drove Rachel into Stingray's arms. It was Janelle Timmins who drew a line of peace after the couple faced critasism from most residents of the street due to Rachel's young age.
Rachel was in love with Stingray and was broken as they began to face difficulties in the latter half of 2006. Stingray's alcoholism put a strain on their relationship. Rachel tried hard to remain by his side but they split as Stingray fell into heavier drinking and more unpredictable. The pair reunited for several weeks in 2007 however this only reinforced their perceived barriers between them, specifically the age difference between them.
