Paul returned to the show during the Lassiter fire, which it later transpired he was caused, as the 2005 season of Neighbours kicked off. He provided support for the residents who were shocked by recent happenings. Over the next few weeks Paul spent time getting to know the residents and proved popular amongst almost everyone he met.

With the arrival of a spresentive of the global American cooperation Affirmacon Paul began to take a more sinister role. He still maintained a caring and helpful persona when operating with the Ramsay Street residents but began dodgy buisiness dealings. he signed a million dollar agreement with Lee Thomas of Affirmacon saying he would get them the land upon which Ramsay Street and Lassiters are built upon for development of a large shopping complex. To do this he became friends with David and convinced him to run for local council. He then fixed the council results so that David was elected. The other Ramsay Street residents were then conned into agreeing to sell up due to the threat of rising water tables which would see their houses under water in a few years. Finally he dumped toxins into the local water to make sure that the land was put up for sale to a private company who could built on the land if the cleared up the toxic waste instead of being turned into the nature reserve as oringinally planned.

During this time Paul also romanced Lee Thomas. Once she had returned to America Paul then set his sights upon Izzy Hoyland. Despite already being involved with Karl Izzy quickly entered another relationship with Paul, unbeknown to Karl or anyone else. Paul also grew close to Lilijiana Bishop and it soon became clear to him that he had real feelings for her. Izzy and Paul's relationship soured as she found him in bed with an Affirmacon representative. Izzy also dug up evidence connecting Paul to the Lassiter fire. The pair stopped seeing each other and their relationship became one of mutual dislike. Pauls desire for Lil was ever growing though and he began to act upon his feelings. At first Lil rejected Paul outright but persistance saw her denial wanning. Eventually Paul's scheming broke David and saw him being charge for fraud. Lil ended her relationship with David. Paul was there for her and eventually they became a couple.

Paul's good reputation began to unravel as the Affirmacon deal came to a head. There were suspicions of his motives as he began to suggest that selling the toxic land to a ouside cooperation may be a good idea. David also begins to claim he has been set up by Paul. Whilst his accusations don't have alot of credability at first, the mutterings increase as Paul's actions become increasingly suspicous. News of his and Izzy's relationship whilst she was dating Karl oestrasise the pair. Izzy's dissapearance leaving a bloody trail which seems to lead back to Paul shatters the remains of Paul's reputation and leaves a desperate man on the edge.
