Episode 5450
Despite his reservations, Steve is pressured into allowing Jim to attend the fishing trip. His concern increases when he sees his father packing a case of beer into the back of the car. The tensions ease as the men enjoy a pleasant day of fishing but when Jim raises the topic of their different recollections of the shed incident, an argument erupts. As the day progresses Jim gets drunker and picks a fight with Lou (who has been cheating at fishing) and Riley, who refuses to hand over the car keys. When things get physical, Steve intervenes but he’s totally unprepared for his father’s shock announcement: Steve isn’t his son.
Carmella is jet-lagged and Marco is rushed off his feet so Sam and Dan offer to babysit Chloe. They take her to the park where they meet up with Libby, Ben and Ty. As the boys play footy, Sam admits that she’s been thinking a lot about a baby of her own but that she’d have to stop taking her medication first. When Chloe is stung by a bee, Dan, Karl and Marco are all impressed by Sam’s calm and rational response to the drama. Growing ever more confident in her own abilities, Sam makes a radical decision: against Dan’s wishes, she secretly stops taking her bipolar medication.
Meanwhile Ben voices his confusion over his own family situation, asking if Ty is the new Darren. Libby reassures her son that Ty is just a friend but it’s a bittersweet moment as Ben reminds her that he had hoped Dan would be his new stepdad.
Karl’s surprised when Taylah visits him at the hospital, asking to be put on the contraceptive pill. Bound by patient confidentiality, he is forced to deflect worried Zeke’s questions but he encourages his stepson to talk to Taylah. When she lies to Zeke and makes up a story about headaches, Karl is even more concerned. Something about Taylah’s request gives him the strong impression that the troubled teen is hiding a dark secret from her past.
