5000 Neighbours Episodes

Yet another milestone in Neighbours history is checked off this week in Australia as the 5000th episode airs on Friday 30th July 2006.
The event has been built up via a few subtle markers such as the placement of block numbers 990 to 1000 being added into the scripts in the weeks building up to the 5000th episodes. The episode itself will rely upon the strong storylines that have been running through Neighbours in recent weeks instead of the commemorative theme of the 20th Anniversary celebrations which saw various old cast members return to Ramsay Street.
The
500th episode milestone comes amidst criticism of the shows production team and the recent changes they have attempted to enforce in Erinsborough which appears to be and attempt to bring Neighbours closer to it's fellow Australian soap Home and Away which is outperforming Neighbours in terms of viewing figures in Australia. The Neighbours fan base remains strong though with most simply urging those with power to remember the shows strengths such as it's rather unique and gentle nature when compared to other soap opera's.
Even the most stoic fan will be hard pushed to argue that the changes haven't made Neighbours more compelling to watch. The 5000th episode looks to draw together the misdeeds of Robert Robinson as he finally goes all out and attacks Paul Robinson with venom and power.
